Class 5 Mathematics Question Paper (With Solutions)

Subject – Mathematics

Class – 5th

M.M. – 60 Time – 2 hours.
Multiple Choice Questions. (Q.1 to 5)
Instructions- Choose and write the correct option. Each question carries 1 mark.
Q.1 How many degrees is a right angle?
  • (A) 75°
  • (B) 90° ✔
  • (C) 180°
  • (D) 100°
Solution: An angle measuring exactly 90° is called a right angle.
Q.2 Perimeter of the given rectangle will be
+1 cm →
1 cm
  • (A) 10 centimetres
  • (B) 12 centimetres
  • (C) 14 centimetres ✔
  • (D) 16 centimetres
Solution: The grid shows a rectangle which is 5 squares long and 2 squares wide.
Length (L) = 5 cm, Breadth (B) = 2 cm.
Perimeter = 2 × (L + B) = 2 × (5 + 2) = 2 × 7 = 14 cm.
Q.3 What image will be formed from the given net?
  • (A) Cube ✔
  • (B) Cuboid
  • (C) Cylinder
  • (D) Cone
Solution: Based on common class 5 standard questions, a net made of 6 equal squares forms a Cube.
*Note: The net image was missing in the paper print, but ‘Cube’ is the standard answer for square nets.
Q.4 How many pencils of length 10 centimetres each will make 1 metre long pencil?
  • (A) 5
  • (B) 10 ✔
  • (C) 15
  • (D) 30
Solution: We know that 1 metre = 100 centimetres.
Number of pencils = Total length / Length of one pencil
= 100 cm / 10 cm = 10 pencils.
Q.5 Which number do the tally marks ZZI show?
  • (A) 13
  • (B) 12
  • (C) 8
  • (D) 11 ✔
Solution: In typing format, “ZZI” usually represents two complete sets of tally marks (5 + 5) and one single mark (1).
Total = 5 + 5 + 1 = 11.

Fill in the blanks (Question 6 to 10)
Instruction- Each question carries 1 mark.
Q.6 Each surface of cubodial box is rectangular.
Q.7 By rotating half a turn (or 180°) figure will look the same as before.
Q.8 The ratio representing distance on map is called Scale.
Q.9 Tally mark for number 10 is two groups of 5 (e.g., |||| ||||).
Q.10 5000 meters = 5 Kilometers.
Solution: 1 Kilometer = 1000 meters. So, 5000 / 1000 = 5 km.

Very Short Answer Type Questions. (Q. 11 to 16)
Instructions- Solve the following questions. Each question carries 2 marks.
Q.11 Length of a rectangular table is 3 metres and area is 6 square metres. Find its width.
Solution:
Area of a rectangle = Length × Width
6 = 3 × Width
Width = 6 / 3 = 2 metres.
Q.12 Draw any three figures that look same as before when rotated by half a turn.
Solution:
Any three figures that have point symmetry (look same on 180° rotation):
1. Rectangle
2. Square
3. Circle (or Parallelogram / Oval).
Q.13 What is the sum of the dots on the opposite faces of the dice?
Solution:
In a standard dice, the sum of dots on opposite faces is always 7 (e.g., 1+6, 2+5, 3+4).
Q.14 Change 1 meter 79 centimetres into centimetres.
Solution:
1 meter = 100 centimetres.
Total = 100 cm + 79 cm = 179 centimetres.
Q.15 If the length of the rectangle is 15 centimetres and width is 12 centimetres. Then find area of the rectangle.
Solution:
Area of rectangle = Length × Width
Area = 15 cm × 12 cm = 180 sq. centimetres (cm²).
Q.16 The capacity of a measuring vessel is 200 millilitres. With the help of this vessel a bottle of one litre is to be filled completely. Find how many times water has to be filled from 200 millilitres vessel to fill a one litre bottle completely?
Solution:
Capacity of bottle = 1 Litre = 1000 millilitres (ml).
Capacity of measuring vessel = 200 ml.
Number of times = 1000 / 200 = 5 times.

Short Answer Type Questions. (Q. 17 to 22)
Instructions: Solve the following questions. Each question carries 3 marks.
Q.17 What is the number of obtuse angles in given picture?
Solution: An obtuse angle is an angle greater than 90° and less than 180°.
*Note: Students need to count the angles greater than 90° directly from the picture printed on their actual exam paper. (e.g., A regular hexagon has 6 obtuse angles).
Q.18 Write 30, 40, and 50 in such a way that the horizontal and vertical sum of the numbers is 120.
Solution: To form a cross where the sum is 120, place the average number (40) in the center intersecting cell.
Horizontal: 30 + 40 + 50 = 120
Vertical: 50 + 40 + 30 = 120 (with 40 in the middle).
Q.19 Look at the picture given below and answer:
  • (a) Windows are in which direction in the image?
  • (b) Doors are in which direction in the image?
  • (c) Blackboard is in which direction in the image?
Solution Directions:
*Note: Answers will depend on the map/picture printed in the exam. Generally, you have to look at the compass directions (North, South, East, West) provided in the drawing and state the directions accordingly.
Que.20 A Square is made from 24 centimetres long wire. Find area of the square.
Solution:
The total length of the wire is the perimeter of the square.
Perimeter = 24 cm
Side of square = Perimeter / 4 = 24 / 4 = 6 cm.
Area of square = Side × Side = 6 × 6 = 36 sq. centimetres (cm²).
Que.21 Answer the questions on the basis of given Table.
  • (a) Find number of girl students in class 2.
  • (b) Find total number of girls of class 3 and class 4.
  • (c) The Least number of girl students is in which class?
Solution Directions:
*Note: The table data (Tally marks and numbers) is blank in the printed image. To solve this, count the tally marks for each class, write the number, and perform basic addition/comparison based on the data.
Q.22 Find the Beejank of 729.
Solution:
Beejank (Digital root) is found by continuously adding the digits until a single digit is obtained.
Sum = 7 + 2 + 9 = 18
Again add the digits of 18: 1 + 8 = 9.
Hence, the Beejank of 729 is 9.

Long Answer Type Questions. (Q. 23 to 26)
Instructions : Solve the following questions. Each question carries 5 marks.
Q.23 Speed of a car is 50 kilometres per hour.
  • Find – (a) How much distance will be covered by car in 3 hours.?
  • (b) How much time will car take to cover distance of 400 kilometres?
Solution:
(a) Distance = Speed × Time
Distance = 50 km/hr × 3 hours = 150 kilometres.

(b) Time = Distance / Speed
Time = 400 km / 50 km/hr = 8 hours.
Q.24 Radha has read 3/4 part of a book. If total number of pages in book is 100. Tell how many pages Radha has read?
Solution:
Total pages in the book = 100
Fraction of the book read = 3/4
Number of pages read = (3/4) of 100
= (3/4) × 100 = 3 × 25 = 75 pages.
Q.25 Draw factor tree of 24.
Solution:
A factor tree breaks down a number into its prime factors:
     24
    /    \
  2     12
          /  \
        2    6
              /  \
            2    3
The prime factors of 24 are 2 × 2 × 2 × 3.
Q.26 There are 26 rooms in a school. Each room has 4 plants in it. If 2 cups of water is required for each plant, then find how many cups of water is required for all the plants? 5
Solution:
Number of rooms = 26
Plants in each room = 4
Total number of plants = 26 × 4 = 104 plants.

Water required for 1 plant = 2 cups
Total water required = Total plants × 2
= 104 × 2 = 208 cups.
