Q.24 Explain why sliding friction is less than static friction.5
Answer: Friction is caused by the interlocking of irregularities in the two surfaces in contact. When an object is at rest, the irregularities on its surface have enough time to strongly lock into the irregularities on the floor, resulting in high static friction.
However, when the object is already sliding over the surface, the contact points on its surface do not get enough time to lock firmly into the contact points of the floor. Because the interlocking is weaker during motion, it requires less force to keep the object moving than to start the movement. Hence, sliding friction is less than static friction.
Q.25 Describe how noise pollution is harmful to humans.5

3. Hearing Impairment: Continuous exposure to loud sounds can cause temporary or even permanent loss of hearing (deafness).
4. Loss of Concentration: It causes distraction, making it difficult for students to focus on studies and for adults to concentrate on their work, reducing overall efficiency.
